All Hazards 001: Remembering 9/11 w/ Steve Gillespie, Lieutenant FDNY (retired)

This is the first episode of the Kinetic Development Group “All-Hazards Podcast”. We were going to wait, but given who we are, what we do and what this week represents forced us to put this together.  This episode gives you a brief intro to Kinetic Development Group, but more importantly, we give you an unscripted account of what 9/11/01 meant to us. Though Matt briefly shares the impact 9/11 had on him, the important conversation is with Steve.  Steve was a member of FDNY Squad 41 at the time and, though he was off duty, he lost everyone on the rig that day and spent the following months trying to find his friends in “the pile” and going to funerals while trying to rebuild a fire company.  We talk about how the “roots of preparedness”: leadership, resilience and response were applied before, during and after 9/11 and we talk about what being an “Alpha” really means.  The production quality may not be great, but the content and conversation are as real as it gets.
